It is a genre whose plots feature elements of travel. They typically involve protagonists who must leave their home or place of comfort and to go far away to fulfill a goal.

The film depicts the legendary Saxon knight Robin Hood who, in King Richard the Lionheart's absence in the Holy Land during the Crusades, fights back as the outlaw leader of a rebel guerrilla band against Prince John and the Norman lords oppressing the Saxon commoners. It stars Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Patric Knowles, Eugene Pallette and Alan Hale Sr.

The story centers on a supernatural board game that releases jungle-based hazards upon its players with every turn they take. As a boy in 1969, Alan Parrish became trapped inside the game itself while playing. Twenty-six years later, siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd find the game, begin playing and then unwittingly release the now-adult Alan. It stars Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, and Bebe Neuwirth.

The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) Gore Verbinski

The story follows pirate Jack Sparrow and blacksmith Will Turner as they rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, captained by Hector Barbossa, who become undead skeletons in moonlight. It stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush.

The film follows "Mad" Max Rockatansky, a police officer-turned-vigilante in a near-future Australia in the midst of societal collapse. It stars Mel Gibson,  Joanne Samuel, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Steve Bisley, Tim Burns, and Roger Ward.

The mummy (1999) Stephen Sommers

The film follows adventurer Rick O'Connell as he travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with a librarian and her older brother, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest from the reign of the Pharaoh Seti I of 1290 B.C. It stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Kevin J. O'Connor, and Arnold Vosloo.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) Eric Brevig

The film follows Trevor Anderson and his nephew Sean who is supposed to spend ten days with him. While at his house, Trevor discovers the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. Inside the book Trevor finds notes written by his late brother. It stars Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem, and Josh Hutcherson.

The story follows sixteen-year-old Thomas, portrayed by O'Brien, who awakens in a rusty elevator with no memory of who he is, only to learn that he has been delivered to the middle of an intricate maze, along with many other boys, who have been trying to find their way out of the ever-changing labyrinth.It stars Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Will Poulter, and Patricia Clarkson.
